Avulsion Fracture

An avulsion fracture is an avulsion in which the soft tissue tears away a piece of bone instead of detacching from the bone itself.

Avulsion fractures occur almost exclusively at an apophysis of the affected bone.

In pitching, the most common avulsion fracture involves the medial epicondyle of the humerus.
