Fan response is most easily measured by a team's revenue stream, the largest factor of which is home attendance - essentially a measurement of demand. It follows that if one can understand the relationship between wins and attendance, then one can reasonably predict revenue at different win levels.

When plotted on a wins versus revenue graph, the function that predicts these points is called a win-curve.
