Valgus Extension Overload Syndrome

Valgus extension overload syndrome is a complex biomechanical event that takes place in the elbow when throwing.

Caused by valgus force and rapid elbow extension, it is a combination of the tensile stress in the soft medial tissues, shear stress in and around the olecranon, and compression stress in the bony lateral structures.

Valgus extension overload syndrome may result in the following injuries: tears of the ulnar collateral ligament, nerve inflammation, bone spurs, stress fractures, and bone chips.
